Cellular Pathology Biomedical Scientist

We are looking for a well-motivated, enthusiastic and skilled biomedical scientist to enhance our existing team in providing a Cellular Pathology diagnostic service.

Applications are invited from Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered biomedical scientists. Ideally the applicant will have an IBMS specialist diploma in Cellular Pathology or equivalent, however applications from those without will be considered depending on experience (agreed salary will be dependent on qualifications). The applicant must have at least one year of laboratory experience and completed the IBMS registrants’ portfolio. The candidate should have up-to-date knowledge of Cellular Pathology together with excellent technical and communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake tasks within specific areas of cellular pathology such as immunohistochemistry, special stains, nongynaecological cytology and specimen dissection. Tasks such as embedding, microtomy and quality control will also be routine.

Applicants should have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and have the confidence to work independently. Active participation in CPD is compulsory, and opportunities for further study are encouraged and supported.

Our busy laboratory is ISO 15189:2012 accredited through UKAS and is also IBMS approved for specialist training. We provide the Cellular Pathology requirements for a population of approximately 105,000 and receive around 9500 cases per year. If you are interested in applying for this position, we strongly encourage you to contact us for an informal conversation.
