We are looking to recruit an experienced Laboratory Systems Associate to provide support to the Senior Research Associate working across Four Fleming Fund Country Grants in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia & Nigeria.

Purpose of the role

The Fleming Fund is a UK government funded programme to help low- and middle-income countries address anti-microbial resistance primary through the development of surveillance systems in both human and animal health. The Liverpool School of tropical Medicine (LSTM) is part of a consortium supporting four countries in strengthening their AMR surveillance systems: Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. LSTM is providing support in areas such as laboratory renovation, quality management, capacity assessment and external quality assurance systems. 

About the Role:

You will provide expert bacteriology laboratory support focussing on strengthening the capacity of laboratory sites for antimicrobial resistance surveillance in each country for antimicrobial resistance surveillance in each country. 

Activities to strengthen laboratory capacity include, but are not limited to:

  • The renovation and equipping of surveillance laboratories
  • Training and mentoring of laboratory staff,
  • Developing quality management systems in line with ISO15189 and ISO17025 and
  • Developing national external quality assurance systems in line with ISO17043.  

The post holder will be directed and supported in this role by the lead on the Fleming Fund grants held by LSTM, Russell Dacombe. 

The Candidate:

Ideally, we are seeking a candidate that can demonstrate on their CV and application a combination of the below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science or equivalent
  • Experience in preparing for and undergoing a laboratory ISO audit
  • Experience in working in an ISO15189 or 17025 accredited bacteriology laboratories
  • Able to lead teams of scientific/technical laboratory staff in complex activities
  • Ability to act in a professional manner when dealing with clients and partners
  • Write high quality reports on project activities
  • Review technical documents and provide detailed and constructive feedback

Whilst not essential a Master’s degree in microbiology or related subject and a relevant qualification in laboratory related ISO would be advantageous to your application.
