Applications are invited for the post of lead Biomedical Scientist (band 8B) in Clinical Microbiology at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.

Responsible for the management, delivery and development of Clinical Microbiology and its staff, the post holder will likely be a state registered BMS with considerable experience who has shown innovation, drive and leadership in their existing position and a willingness to keep quality at the centre of everything Pathology does.

The successful candidate may also be asked to deputise for the Pathology Service Manager as/if required alongside other senior Pathology staff.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their drive, innovation and vision into the department such that it becomes a recognised exemplar service.

The department is on an exciting journey of change which has started with the installation of new analytical platforms, linked to the start of a new managed laboratory service and due to the Covid Pandemic.

Over the next 24 months it is likely that Clinical Microbiology will transition into a new laboratory facility housing all of the Pathology specialties under one roof.

This is the perfect opportunity to lead a refreshed and evolving department at the beginning of a new chapter, and to be involved in shaping its long term future, helping to create a quality focussed, modern, efficient and effective patient-centred Clinical Microbiology service.

The NHSI Pathology Network plans are leading to Pathology services in South 1 adopting the principles of GIRFT, focussing on patient outcomes and continuing to support services at sites across Devon and Cornwall.

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week. A flexible attitude to working hours is essential. Hours are currently within a framework of 08:00 - 20:00. Participation in the out-of-hours service is not expected, but the ability to support this function may be required.

Relocation expenses and assistance with a move can be available for the right candidate.
