King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s leading NHS Foundation Trusts in specialist teaching. King’s has various divisions including Neurosciences, Haematology, Cancer and Cardiovascular sciences, where there are unlimited opportunities to develop and perfect your career. Over the last 170 years, King’s has delivered nothing but world class service to all its patients from deprived communities as well as some of the wealthiest in London.
This is an exciting opportunity for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Viapath Bacteriology team providing a specialist service for a range of complex patients. You will be joining an exceptional and dedicated team who always go the extra mile for the benefit of our patients.
We are a progressive, UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accredited service who provide a comprehensive range of investigations which include bacteriology, parasitology, mycology and infection surveillance for King’s College Hospital and the local community. The Bacteriology Department receives over 350,000 samples per year and currently uses BacTALERT, Vitek MS, Vitek2, Vitek Compact, Cepheid and DS2 with a view to introducing further automation. The laboratory also uses Clinisys Winpath LIMS and Q-pulse; experience of these systems would be an advantage.
The laboratory core working hours are 08.54 -17.00 Monday to Friday and includes a 1 in 4 Saturday shift (08.00-13.00) on rotation as part of the contracted weekly 37.5 hours. The successful candidate will be required to participate in mandatory weekend shifts and residential on-call shifts on a rotational basis.
We are fully committed to continued professional and personal development and will support you in achieving your full potential. The Bacteriology Department is an IBMS training approved laboratory for the Certificate of Achievement, Registration and Specialist portfolios. Further training and development opportunities exist through Viapath initiatives including the Scientific Learning and Development Fund and the ViAcademy through which you can receive funding for advanced qualifications. Other opportunities include a chance to join the Future Leaders in Innovation group and participation in the Viapath Career Development Pathway. Through Viapath’s Innovation Fund, you can apply for finance to get that new innovative scientific project off the ground and participate with the wider scientific community through symposiums, conferences and other peer group meetings.
