The location

We have an opportunity for a full time experienced band 6 HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to fill a retirement vacancy in the Tissue Science Department at the Princess Royal University Hospital PRUH.
Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) a District General Hospital is part of King’s College Hospital NHS foundation Trust one of London’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals. It proudly provides quality care to patients within the boroughs of Bromley and Bexley.

Our hospital situated in Orpington Kent serves a population of approximately 300,000 in the borough of Bromley. The pathology department supports the provision of acute healthcare service to thousands more patients in the catchment area.

The laboratory
We are looking for a highly motivated conscientious HCPC registered band 6 Biomedical Scientist with a well-established knowledge of histopathology and processes. Applicants must have a completed IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
You must be able to work independently or as part of a team, work well under pressure, and be able to complete tasks efficiently to a high quality standard.

You will work across all areas in the Tissue Science department Immunocytochemistry, BMS ‘cut up’, special stains, microtomy and OSNA
We are extremely proud of our OSNA service using the SYSMEX RD-100 platform. OSNA – is an effective method which promptly and accurately detects SLNB metastasis negating the need for a second axillary operation. The use of one step nucleic-acid amplification offers our surgeons:
· Prompt availability of results
· Automated and standardised test procedure
· High levels of sensitivity and specificity
· Analysis of entire lymph node

Our department processes approximately 65,000 blocks per annum. We have at our disposal the latest analytic analysers. The Roche BenchMark Ultra platform is employed in immunocytochemistry department. Also in use are the Leica CM1860UV cryostat, Sakura Tissue-Tek VIP 6, Leica automated IP C cassette printer, the Tissue-Tek embedding centre and the Tissue Tek Prisma staining machine.

Hours of work is 37.5 hours per week participating as required on a rota
