We are looking for a Band 6 HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to join our small, friendly team within the Biochemistry Department, Noble’s Hospital, in the Isle of Man.

The Biochemistry Department processes a workload of around 800 requests per day, most of which is performed on Roche Cobas Pro analysers (ISE/c503/e801) with CCM track system and pre-analytics (p471/p612), all newly installed in November 2020.

As part of your role, you will carry out clinical scientific and technical duties in the diagnostic laboratory. You’ll perform a wide range of both simple and complex tests that assist in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of a range of illnesses.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking laboratory investigations
  • Undertaking preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments
  • Undertaking assessments of results from laboratory investigations
  • Maintain and progress quality and training initiatives

We are looking for people who work well within a team and have a patient-focused approach. Experience in quality and point of care would be advantageous.

Additionally, enhanced pay is available through participation in the weekend working rota and out of hours “on-call” following training and competencies.

What can this role offer me?

By joining us you’ll be stepping away from NHS pressures and demands, as the Island’s healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS.

We are a forwarding-thinking Department, and we’re always looking to improve our services to patients and develop our employees.

This role offers you plenty of opportunities for continuous personal and professional development and you’ll also have access to Keyll Daree, our well-resourced education and training centre on site at Noble’s Hospital, as well as the Isle of Man Government Learning, Education and Development (LEaD) prospectus. Free parking is also available on site.

Manx Care is committed to creating smoke-free spaces and is ‘proud to be smoke free’ as part of the overall Isle of Man Smoke Free 2030 ambition. As of April 1st 2021 smoking is no longer permitted on our Manx Care sites. For support and advice on abstinence from smoking, please contact Quit4You on 642404 or Quit4You@gov.im
