About the role and our team

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join the Isle of Man Blood Bank which incorporates the Isle of Man Blood Transfusion Service.

Rotating through the donor and hospital sides of the laboratory, you will take daily responsibility for your section and any junior staff therein. You will ensure that all investigations and processes are carried out in an accurate and timely manner whilst also ensuring compliance with national guidelines and directives as well as performing in accordance with local SOPs and policies.

As a Senior Biomedical Scientist you will work closely with other members of the Pathology and Donor teams and will take a lead in quality assurance tasks as directed by the Blood Transfusion manager.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing a comprehensive range of routine and specialist Transfusion analyses
  • Improving the current departmental audit schedule
  • Forward planning within the Department to meet UKAS accreditation and MHRA standards
  • Updating SOPs and delegating review tasks appropriately
  • Using your knowledge and interpersonal skills to provide specialist advice and guidance to our service users and the clinical Haematology team

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic and forward-thinking Biomedical Scientist with a strong track record in the field of blood transfusion, who would like to develop their career further as a Senior Biomedical Scientist for the Blood Transfusion services on the Island.
