Job summary  

We are seeking applications from enthusiastic, capable, flexible scientists to become a team manager with responsibility for the operational delivery of core and specialist blood transfusion services.

We are a vibrant and forward-looking service undergoing significant development with a centralised blood sciences laboratory at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, Cramlington due to open within the next 12-15 months.

You will need to possess a relevant professional qualification to degree level or equivalent, an MSc, FIBMS or equivalent in a relevant discipline and HCPC registration.

Extensive experience post HCPC registration in Blood Transfusion is required and you should hold a recognised specialist transfusion qualification.

Excellent technical, interpersonal, IT skills and a commitment to the development of your specialist discipline is essential.

Main duties of the job  

The post holder will exercise autonomy within professional boundaries and will be involved in managing priorities, designing and implementing developments, managing and delivering training and overseeing quality within the blood sciences department as part of a multi-skilledteam.

We aim to deliver and continue to develop high quality services for both present and future clinical users of the department.

Job description

Job responsibilities  

The post holder will be part of the Blood Transfusion team based within the centralised Blood Transfusion laboratory at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. As part of the team they will be responsible for the delivery of transfusion services across the whole Trust.

Person Specification Qualifications / Professional Registration Essential

  • IBMS Approved BSc (Hons) or equivalent MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent experience / knowledge (i.e. FIBMS)
  • State Registration (Health Professions Council)
  • Evidence of Continuing professional development

Experience and knowledge Essential

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Specialist Haematology / Transfusion knowledge
