We are looking for top talent to join the UK’s leading and fastest growing pathology company – a scientific organisation with a clinical purpose.

Working in partnership with our service partners, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital and Bedford NHS Hospital Trusts, we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.

Applications are invited for an experienced Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join our expanding Microbiology Department. We are a progressive service and provide a comprehensive range of investigations which include bacteriology, parasitology, mycology and surveillance of infections for King’s College Hospital and the local community. The Microbiology Department receives over 350,000 samples per year and uses the Clinisys WinPath LIS; experience of this system would be an advantage. We currently use BacTALERT, Vitek MS, Vitek2, Vitek Compact and DS2 with a view to introducing further automation.

The department is UKAS accredited.

We are fully committed to continued professional and personal development and will support you in achieving your full potential. Further opportunities and development training exists through Viapath initiatives including the chance to join the Future Leaders in Innovation group, participation in the Viapath Careers Development Pathway, use of the Scientific Learning and Development fund for training funding and participation in the annual World Quality Day event.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and enthusiastic. Candidates must have:

  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and evidence of CPD
  • A broad knowledge of clinical microbiology
  • Excellent communication, organisational and trouble-shooting skills

Applicants who have achieved HCPC registration via portfolio route will not be considered for this post unless they have also completed the specialist portfolio.

The post holder would be expected to join a team that works a 37.5 hours/week 08:54 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and 1:4 Saturday shifts 08:00 to 13:00. There is an opportunity to participate in additional weekend and out-of-hours work.
