Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

We are looking to appoint a Registered Biomedical Scientist to work within our UKAS Accredited Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory. The laboratory offers a broad nationwide service, diagnosing human parasitic diseases using microscopical, serological and molecular techniques. The laboratory incorporates aspects of Microbiology, Haematology and Blood sciences within one unit. The laboratory has strong links with and undertakes diagnostic testing of samples from NHS Trusts, private hospitals and private laboratories.

The successful candidate will provide a range of diagnostic testing, adhering to strict professional International standards and the laboratories quality management system to provide accurate timely results to assist clinical diagnosis.

Using microscopy, antibody detection and molecular techniques you will undertake a range of diagnostic testing as part of your duties.

The post holder will possess a Degree in Biomedical Sciences (or related subject) and be a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist, together with experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory setting. Knowledge of basic quality control and assurance is essential, and you will be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of people.

The days of work for this post will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

Closing Date: 21st July 2019
