Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Chief Medical Scientist - Histopathology at St James’s Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8, Ireland.

This exciting opportunity will see the successful applicant joining a dynamic team in which you will be responsible for leading and co-ordinating the development and delivery of histopathology and cytopathology services in the Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Pathology Directorate. To provide support for the development of services embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of change necessary to achieve organisational objectives.

St. James’s Hospital is the largest Academic Teaching Hospital in the Republic of Ireland, enjoying strong links with the University of Dublin (Trinity College). With 1,000 beds, more than 3,800 staff and an annual turnover of over €420m, by international standards St. James’s is a substantial acute hospital service provider. However, its profile is not related purely to its scale, but to the visibility of its services and expertise on a national level. It occupies a prominent position in the public eye, and is recognised as placing a high emphasis on innovation and excellence of delivery.

The Histopathology and Cytopathology Department of the Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Pathology directorate (LabMed) provides diagnostic services to St. James’s Hospital, GPs in the greater Dublin area, the Dublin Dental Hospital and a number of external hospitals with whom we have service level agreements.

The Department also provides review and opinion services in gastrointestinal pathology, hepatopathology, non-gynaecological cytopathology, haematopathology, dermatopathology, soft tissue pathology, breast, lung, urological, head and neck, ENT and gynaecological pathology and contributes to the extensive MDT meeting schedule of the hospital.
