The Microbiology laboratory at Ipswich Hospital is one of two Hub laboratories for the Eastern Regional Laboratory for Public Health England currently providing services to Ipswich Hospital, the surrounding district and other NHS Laboratories. In the future the Ipswich laboratory will be providing services to both Colchester and West Suffolk Hospitals. It has active research and epidemiological interests with its link to the other PHE Eastern Hub Laboratory at Cambridge. The laboratory is accredited with CPA with strong teaching interests. Set on the outskirts of the county town of Suffolk, Ipswich Hospital is one of the largest District General Hospitals in the UK. Ipswich pathology is closely associated with leading educational providers including the University of Essex.
Job description
We are looking for a well-motivated, enthusiastic person to join the team. Applicants must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and must have experience of working at Specialist Portfolio level in a diagnostic Microbiology laboratory or an MSc in relevant discipline and extensive experience in a diagnostic Microbiology laboratory. Successful applicants will join the team of rotating BMS staff, contributing to all areas of Microbiology laboratory diagnostic work and developing a broad range of skills.
ResponsibilitiesThe post will be based at Ipswich PHE. The laboratory will be moving to a 24 hour shift system in which you will be required to participate. A Continuing Professional Development programme is provided and encouragement will be given to develop skills that will assist you in the pursuit of your career ambitions.Applicants are strongly advised to use the criteria in the person specification (available online) as sub-headings in their application to make it clear how they meet each of the selection criteria.
